1. Setting
The short story titled The Silk Scarf is set on last days of apartheid, in oriental plaza in Johannesburg.
. PlotThe story is all about Mrs. Nebo, a wife of a prominent official of the African front so called Clive Nebo, who wanted to pay a silk scarf by cheque. Mrs. Nebo went to the shopping with her friend Margaret and two escorts in a Mercedes Benz. There was amazing shop called Moughul Boutique with clothes of both best and poor quality for rich and poor people. The escorts were in their navy blue suits just following the ladies eating potato crisps.Mrs. Nebo saw a lovely Indian dress on in a shop through the window and decided to buy it. Then the shopkeeper asked Mrs Nebo ie she has the silk scarf which will perfectly match the dress. She was shown a silk scarf by Mr. Sakur she was interested in. The silk scarf was costing 110 rand and unfortunately, she was out with 15 rand. However, she decided to pay it with a cheque, which was prohibited in the shop. Mrs. Nebo felt offended by that rule, because she is a wife of an important official and she usually pay by cheque. Margaret was trying to defend her, but Mr. Sakur refuses completely with the aim to treat all his customers equally. The shopkeepers entered the shop as they heard what sounded as an argument and tried to convince Mr. Sakur to accept Mrs. Nebo’s cheque. Mr. Sakur totally refuses until Mr Sader decide to pay for the silk scarf and give it to Mrs. Nebo as a present.

She is a wife of prominent minister,Mr Clive Nebo,who is going to be the minister of foreign affairs in the upcoming government.She is of medium height and smooth-skinned complexion.she is a rich woman.she is also short-tempered because she got angry when the cheque was rejected.
b) Mr. Sakur(shopkeeper)
Mr. Sakur is a well-renowned shopkeeper in Moghul Boutique.He is a thin-looking man and he abides to his laws.He don't accept cheques and credit.He managed to reject Mrs Nebo's cheque.
